Gorillas Wrap Up Regular Season With 77-52 Road Win

Pitt State Earns No. 8 Seed for 2022 MIAA Championships

WICHITA — Tristan Gegg scored a game high 25 points to help lead the Pittsburg State University women's basketball team to a 77-52 road win over Newman University in the regular season finale Saturday (Feb. 26) at Fugate Gym.

The Gorillas wrapped up the regular season with a 16-12 overall record and an 11-11 mark in MIAA play. Pitt State earned the No. 8 seed for the 2022 MIAA Championships. The Gorillas will meet No. 9 seed Washburn University at Noon (CST) Wednesday (Mar. 2) at historic Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.

Gegg made nine of 16 shots from the floor, including five 3-point field goals, to help spark Pitt State against the Jets (2-26, 0-22 MIAA), who failed to win a game in conference play on the season. Jayme Jackson added 12 points and Erin Davis and Karenna Gerber chipped in with 10 apiece for the Gorillas. Gerber added a team-leading eight rebounds.

Newman shot just 33.3 percent from the field in the game (18-54) with Britney Ho finishing the game with a team-leading 13 points.
