PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University softball team opened its MIAA season with a pair of wins over Lincoln University, 15-7, 10-1.
The Gorillas would come out of the gates hot with a four run bottom of the first in game one. The Blue Tigers would regain the lead in the top of the third, 6-5. Pitt State would go on to score eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the run rule victory 15-7. Kianna Pellegrino would go 3-3 in game one with four RBIs. Madison Morris would go 2 1/3 innings and would pick up the win.
Game two would go the Gorillas way thanks to two big innings. The Gorillas would score four runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 4-0 lead. Another four run inning in the third would put the Gorillas up 8-1. Pitt State would add two more in the fourth to take the game 10-1 in five innings. Paxtyn Hayes would go 3-3 in game two with three RBIs. Hannah Harrison would go all five innings allowing four hits and one earned run inside the circle.
The Gorillas will return to action tomorrow (Mar. 14) for a doubleheader with teh University of Central Missouri starting at 2 p.m.
