PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team made the most of a home doubleheader against a pair of regional foes sweeping victories against Minnesota State University and the University of Sioux Falls Saturday (Mar. 19). The Gorillas defeated the Mavericks, 9-6, and downed the Cougars, 5-1.
Pitt State (19-8) utilized a 12-hit offensive attack to outlast MSU (13-5). Keelah Griffith swatted a pair of solo home runs and Paxtyn Hayes homered and drove in four runs in the contest.
Madison Morris (2-0) worked 4.7 innings of relief to pick up the win and Hannah Harrison recorded the final out of the game to earn her third save of the season.
Harrison (10-2) drew the start in game two against USF and she limited the Cougars (12-6) to one run on five hits. She walked two batters and registered 11 strikeouts.
Hayes went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored at the plate. Taylor Lambert and Kyndall Davis homered for the Gorillas.
Pitt State will face both MSU and USF again Sunday (Mar. 20) at the PSU Softball Complex. The Gorillas and Mavericks will battle at 12:15 p.m. and Pitt State will take on the Cougars at 4:45 p.m.
