Emporia, Kan. – The Pittsburg State University softball team split a pair of games against Emporia State University on Friday (Apr. 15), 10-1, 13-7.
The Gorillas would struggle early in game one falling behind 1-0 after three innings of play. Pitt State would turn on the bats scoring two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. The Gorillas would enter the sixth with a 5-1 lead. Pitt State would double its run total with five more runs in the sixth to take the 10-1 run rule victory.
Paxtyn Hayes would go 4-for-4 in game one with two runs. Kianna Pellegrino would also go 4-for-4 with four RBIs and 2 runs scored. Abby Atkins would go all six innings allowing five hits and one run in the victory.
In game two of the day the Gorillas would score first with a run in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. Emporia would score late with three runs in the fourth, six runs in the fifth and an additional four runs in the sixth to take a 13-7 victory.
Hayes would go 2-for-4 in game two of the day with two runs scored.
Pitt State will return to action tomorrow (Apr. 16) to take on Washburn University starting at 1 p.m.
