TOPEKA -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team scored 13 runs on 16 hits in pulling away for a 13-2 victory over Washburn University in the regular season finale for both squads Sunday (May 1).

Pitt State ended the regular season 29-18 overall and 22-11 in MIAA play. The Gorillas finished in a tie for second place in the conference standings with Northeastern State University; and Pitt State will earn the No. 3 seed for the upcoming 2022 MIAA Championships. Washburn finished the regular season 29-19 (19-14 MIAA) and garnered the No. 5 seed for the conference tournament.

Caleb Carr led the Gorillas offensive attack against the Ichabods Sunday, going 4-for-6 at the plate with two RBI. Cruz Aranda went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI, while Brett Daley went3-for-3 with a double and three RBI.

Tanner Lane (4-5) earned the win, allowing just two runs and four hits over 5.1 innings of work. Ben Des Rosiers earned his first save of the season by registering the final nine outs for the Gorillas.

The MIAA will release the 2022 MIAA Baseball Championships bracket later Sunday evening.
