PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University Volleyball team won a big match Monday (Sept.26) evening against the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos, 3-2.
The Gorillas took the first set behind Meg Auten's five kills, 25-21. In the second set, the Gorillas also took advantage of nine Broncho errors winning it 25-22. In the third and fourth set, the Bronchos stormed back to tie the match, 2-2, winning set three 25-19 and set four 25-20. The fifth set had nine lead changes and the score was knotted up 14 times, but in the end the Gorillas took the set 19-17 to win the match 3-2.
Outside hitter Meg Auten had 16 kills and 11 digs on the night for the Gorillas. Brianna Richard had 52 assists. Libero Marissa Bates contributed 25 digs, while Jayden Sanford chipped in with career high 22 digs. Lexi Miller and Janae Thurston both totaled double digit kills with 10 apiece for the Gorillas.
The Gorillas stay at home this weekend with 6 p.m. matches Friday (Sept.30) vs. Emporia State and Saturday (Oct. 1) vs. Washburn at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
