WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team came away with a resilient 101-94 comeback road victory over No. 3 ranked University of Central Missouri Saturday (Dec. 16).

Pitt State (9-1, 4-1 MIAA) trailed, 68-48, with 1:38 left in the third quarter, before engineering a 20-point comeback thanks to a 29-7 run over the next 10 minutes of play. The Gorillas pushed in front, 77-75, on a transition basket by Harper Schreiner with 1:35 to play in regulation. Pitt State and UCM (8-2, 3-2 MIAA) trades punches down the stretch with Olivia Nelson's layup with 13 ticks remaining in regulation knotting the score at 81-81.

In OT, Sydney Holmes hit 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to give the Gorillas a 91-88 edge. Macie Mays added a basket for a 93-88 edge with 1:37 to go and Pitt State made eight of 12 free throws down the stretch to seal the comeback win.

Pitt State head coach Amanda Davied posted her 100
th career victory in the contest. She passed her former mentor Steve High for the fastest coach in program history to reach 100 wins as she accomplished the feat in 151 games compared to High's 156 games.

Karenna Gerber (Halstead, Kan.) finished the contest with a season-high 27 points. She went 10-for-15 from the field and added 10 rebounds to register her fourth double-double of the year. Mays (El Dorado Springs, Mo.) also finished with a season-best 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting (4-for-5 from distance).

Holmes (Maize, Kan.) posted a career-high 19 points in the game, while Schreiner (Eudora, Kan.) contributed 14 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals. Grace Pyle (McPherson, Kan.) chipped in with 14 points.
UCM, which dropped its second straight game in three days after an 8-0 start to the year, got a game-high 29 points from Nelson.

The Gorillas will close out first semester action Monday (Dec. 18) when they travel to Jefferson City, Mo., to battle MIAA rival Lincoln University.
