Gorillas Too Much Down the Stretch in 97-87 Win Over Reddies

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team outscored Henderson State University, 16-7, over the final 6:21 to break open a one-point game and pull away to an 97-87 victory Tuesday (Dec. 19).

The Gorillas (6-4) posted their fourth straight win and swept a pair of games over 48 hours in the 2023 High Desert Classic.

Jeramy Shaw, who scored a game high 29 points in his season debut against Truman Monday, paced the Gorillas with a second straight 29-point scoring output. Shaw made nine of 10 shots from the floor, including a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range, and added seven of eight shooting from the charity stripe in the game.

Jordan Frison also posted his first career double-double and broke the school's single game assists record, scoring 17 points and dishing out 13 assists in the game. Frison scored nine of his 17 points in the game's final 7:39.

Deshaun English II added 13 points and nine rebounds, while Tanner Mans (12) and Tane Prictor (10) also scored in double figures for the Gorillas, who shot 47 percent (33-68) from the field in the game. Pitt State made 11 3-point field goals in the contest and coverted 20 of 24 free throw attempts.

HSU (3-7) got a team-leading 27 points from Malek Davis.
