PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team split a pair of games against Regis University Saturday (Feb. 11) at Al Ortolani Field.

The Rangers rallied from an 11-1 deficit with 13 runs to claim a 14-11 victory in game one before the Gorillas bounced back with a 6-4 victory in the nightcap.

The two squads will wrap up their four-game series with a Noon (CST) game Sunday.

Nixon Brannan belted a pair of three-run home runs to help stake the Gorillas (4-2) to a 10-0 lead through three innings of play in game one. He also doubled and scored three times to finish the game 3-for-4 at the plate.

Regis (4-3) rallied with a 10-run fifth inning as the Rangers benefited from seven walks in the frame, along with four hits, to pull even at 11-11. Regis tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the seventh to complete the come-from-behind win.

In game two, Connor Laux singled home pinch runner Brett Daley with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning to help left the Gorillas to an eventual 6-4 win.

Connor Allen started the frame by being hit by a pitch. Daley came in to run for Allen and advanced to third base on a pair of wild pitches by RU reliever Lamil (0-1). Laux followed with the RBI single. He was later caught stealing. Austin Warkins followed with a double and Brannan singled him in for an insurance run.

Parker Tennill (1-0) worked 3.0 innings of relief, limiting the Rangers to one run while registering three strikeouts. Andrew Wisner picked up his second save of the young season by recording the final three outs.

Brannan went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Warkins and Daegan Brady also collected tow hits each. Joe Hamilton and Warkins scored two runs apiece.
