MSSU Pulls Away in Overtime for 103-93 Win Over Pitt State

PITTSBURG - The Missouri Southern State University men's basketball team outscored Pittsburg State University, 15-5, in overtime to pull away for a 103-93 victory Saturday (Feb. 11) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.

Pitt State (6-18, 3-15 MIAA) out to a 21-6 lead to open the game before MSSU (15-9, 11-7 MIAA) battled back to knot the score at 40-40 at the intermission. The back-and-forth game featured 11 ties and nine lead changes.

Calvin Poulina hit a pair of free throws with 23 seconds remaining in regulation to help the Gorillas force overtime. In OT, Winston Dessesow hit a pivotal 3-pointer to give the Lions a 95-90 lead with 3:20 to play in the extra session.

Deshaun English II led all scorers with 26 points. He added six rebounds and four assists and made six 3-pointers. Albert McBride and R.J. Forney Jr. added 17 points apiece and Tane Prictor posted his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Dessesow led five Lions players in double figures with 20 points.

Pitt State will return to action next Thursday (Feb. 16) by hosting Fort Hays State University at 7:30 p.m. (CST).
