PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team swept the season series against Missouri Southern State University with a 74-64 victory Saturday (Feb. 11) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Tristan Gegg scored a team-leading 14 points as four Gorillas scored in double figures in the contest. Karenna Gerber and Harper Schreiner both posted double-doubles. Gerber contributed 13 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots, while Schreiner chipped in with 12 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Grace Pyle also finished with 12 points for Pitt State (19-5, 14-4 MIAA).
The Gorillas shot just 38 percent from the field in the game (23-61), but Pitt State converted 24 of 25 free throw attempts. The Gorillas outscored the Lady Lions, 24-10, at the charity stripe.
MSSU (21-5, 13-5 MIAA) got a game high 16 points from Lacey Stokes. Madi Stokes added 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Lions, who had a nine-game winning streak snapped in the loss.
The Gorillas will return to action next Thursday (Feb. 16) by hosting Fort Hays State University at 5:30 p.m. (CST).
