BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The Pittsburg State University softball team dropped a pair of tightly contested games on day two action at the Alvy Early Classic Sunday (Feb. 12) .

The Gorillas (3-6) saw a come back bid come up short in a 3-2 loss to Southern Arkansas University and Harding used a three-run sixth inning to claim a 7-5 victory over Pitt State in game two.

SAU (8-0) struck with one run in the first and two more runs in the third inning on a home run by G King to build a 3-0 lead in game one Sunday. Pitt State, which outhit the Lady Muleriders, got two runs in the top of the sixth thanks to an RBI double by Gabby Schultz and a run scoring single by Kylee Bohle.

In game two, Kianna Pellegrino swatted a two-run home run in the second inning and a solo home run in the top of the sixth to help the Gorillas take a 5-4 lead.

The Bison (7-2) countered with an RBI double by Ashlyn Peterson to tie the score and 5-5 and a two-run go-ahead homer by Nicole Shano in the bottom of the sixth.

The Gorillas will make their home debut next Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 18-19) by hosting a triangular against Wayne State College and Drury University.
