Gorillas Take Pair of Wins in Pitt State Triangular Saturday

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University softball team posted a pair of convincing wins on day one action of the Pitt State Triangular Saturday (Feb. 18), defeating Wayne State College, 9-1, and Drury University, 10-2.
 
The Gorillas (5-6) plated three runs apiece in the first and second innings to grab a commanding 6-0 lead early in game one against the Wildcats. Gabby Schultz belted a two-run home run as part of Pitt State's three-run first frame. She added a two-run double in the second as well.
 
Lilli Weir (2-3) limited Wayne State to two hits through 6.0 innings in the circle. She issued three walks and registered five strikeouts.
 
Sophia Driver delivered a two-run double to halt the game by run-rule in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
Heather Arnett collected three of the Gorillas' 11 hits in the contest, while Taylor Lamber also went 2-for-4.
 
In game two, the Gorillas scored three runs in the first and five more runs in the second against the Panthers. Paxtyn Hayes smacked a two-run double in the first and a three-run home run in the second. Gracie Sullivan also belted a two-run homer in the second inning.
 
Hayes finished the game 3-for-6 with two home runs and a double, driving in six runs for the Gorillas. Lambert wnet 3-for-4 at the plate, while Heather Arnett went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
 
Hannah Harrison (3-2) tossed 3.0 hitless innings of relief to earn the win, pitching behind starter Bree Sexton. Sexton allowed two runs in 3.0 innings of work.
 
The Gorillas will wrap up the two day triangular action by hosting Wayne State at 10 a.m. and Drury at 2 p.m. Sunday.
