Gorillas on the Road to Face Bison Tuesday

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will travel to Shawnee, Okla., Tuesday (Feb. 21) to face Oklahoma Baptist University. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. (CST) at Bobby Cox Field at Ford Park.
 
The Gorillas will bring an 8-3 record into Tuesday's action after posting wins in three of four weekend home contests against Sioux Falls (S.D.) and Metro State (Colo.). OBU is 3-6 on the season. The Bison defeated the Gorillas, 21-4, on Feb. 4 at the UCO First Pitch Classic at Edmond, Okla.
 
As a team, Pitt State is hitting .324 and scoring 9.3 runs per game. The Gorillas have smacked 36 doubles and 13 home runs and stolen 26 bases to date. Pitt State pitchers have a 6.90 ERA registering 94 strikeouts in 90.0 innings pitched. Defensively, the Gorillas have a .968 fielding percentage with 12 errors in 380 total chances.
 
Junior infielder Cade Clemons leads the squad with a .400 batting average. He has three doubles, a triple, one home run and eight RBI to his credit. Junior catcher Nixon Brannan in hitting .356  with three doubles, four home runs and a team-leading 18 RBI. Junior outfielder Brevon Lee is batting .333 with two doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI. He's a perfect 8-for-8 in stolen base attempts.
 
Following the OBU game Tuesday, the Gorillas will return home to open MIAA play with a three-game series against Missouri Southern beginning Friday (Feb. 24).
