WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University softball team dropped a pair of games to the University of Central Missouri Sunday (Mar. 12). The Jennies posted 7-2 and 4-2 wins in the MIAA opening doubleheader for both schools.
Game One
The Gorillas took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a two-run double by Kylee Bohle, scoring Gabby Schultz and Heather Arnett. The Jennies scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at two. The Jennies tacked on five more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take the 7-2 victory.
Game Two
The Jennies broke open a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Gorillas countered with two runs in the top of the fourth, knotting the score at 2-2 thanks to a two-run home run by Schultz. UCM retook the lead in the bottom of the frame with a go-ahead run and the Jennies tacked on an insurance run in the fifth to preserve the 4-2 victory.
The Gorillas (14-8, 0-2 MIAA), who saw their 11-game winning streak snapped in the game one loss, will look to bounce back Monday (Mar. 13) when they travel to Jefferson City, Mo., for a twinbill against MIAA rival Lincoln University. First pitch is set for Noon (CDT).
