Gorillas Complete Sweep of Tigers

HAYS, Kan. — Nixon Brannan smacked a go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth inning to help the Pittsburg State University baseball team slide past Fort Hays State University Saturday (Mar. 25).

The Gorillas (21-7, 13-3 MIAA) added four insurance runs in the top of the ninth – powered by a three-run home run by Brett Daley – to claim the 11-6 victory, Pitt State's eighth consecutive win.

The Tigers (13-19, 4-12) plated two runs in the first inning and added a third run in the second against Pitt State starter Ben Des Rosiers. Paul Panduro (3-2) entered the game in the fifth and recorded five outs to earn the win. Panduro, Andrew Wisner, Parker Weddle and Dawson Pomeroy held FHSU hitless over the final 4.2 innings of play.

Brannan doubled, homered and drove in three runs. Austin Warkins and Karson Coffee had three hits apiece, including a double by each. Brevon Lee also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Coffee swiped a pair of bases in the game, while Lee added a third stolen base.

The Gorillas will travel to Emporia, Kan., Tuesday (Mar. 28) for a 5 p.m. (CDT) MIAA game against Emporia State University.
