Gorillas Sweep No. 2 Hillcats

PITTSBURG- The Pittsburg State University softball team swept the NFCA no.2 Hillcats of Rogers State Saturday (Mar.25) at the PSU Softball Field at the Gene Bicknell Sports Complex.

The Gorillas took game one by a score of 1-0 then followed up with a 4-3 victory.

Game One

The Gorillas relied on the arm of Hannah Harrison as she threw a complete game four hit shut out. Harrison struck out 10 hillcat batters while not allowing a single walk. The Gorillas scored the only run as Taylor Lambert drove in a run reaching on an fielding error in the bottom of the second inning. With Harrison's performance in the circle and stellar fielding behind her, the Gorillas held on to win game one 1-0.

Game Two

The Hillcats got on the board early with a home run by Bridgett Morales in the top of the first to give the Hillcats an early 1-0 lead. The Gorillas would tie the game at one in the bottom half of the first with a rbi single off the bat of Paxtyn Hayes scoring Lambert, who hit a lead off triple. The Hillcats would re-gain the lead in the top of the second by scoring a run off of a wild pitch and an rbi fielders choice. Both teams would be scoreless until the bottom of the fifth where Hayes would hit a three-run homerun over the center field wall to give the Gorillas a 4-3 lead. In the top of the sixth, Harrison would enter the game to pitch two innings to earn her third save of the year and complete the two game sweep for the Gorillas.

The Gorillas (19-9, 4-2 MIAA) will be back in action Sunday (Mar.26) as they face the Riverhawks of Northeastern State in a double header starting at noon at the PSU Softball Complex.
