ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team scored two or more runs in six different innings to claim a 14-2 victory over Missouri Western State University in the MIAA series opener Saturday (Mar. 4).
Nixon Brannan swatted a pair of home runs and drove in five runs to key the Gorillas 12-hit attack. Cade Clemons and Ryan Koval also smacked round trippers for the Gorillas (10-6, 2-2 MIAA). Koval, Carson Koffee and Connor Laux each collected two RBI.
Zac Shoemaker (4-0) allowed two runs in 5.1 innings of work on the mound. He limited MWSU to five hits and registered eight strikeouts.
The Gorillas and Griffs will resume the series with a 2 p.m. contest Sunday (Mar. 5).
