PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University softball team won both contests in the MIAA/GLVC Crossover Saturday (Mar. 4) at the PSU Softball Complex.
The Gorillas defeated Missouri S&T, 2-0, then followed with a 10-2 victory over Truman.
Game One
Hannah Harrison and Bryn Wooldridge had a pitchers dual throughout the afternoon. But a two-run double off the top of the wall by Taylor Lambert gave the Gorillas a 2-0 victory on the. Harrison struck out five batters and only gave up three hits in seven innings pitched to earn the win.
Game Two
The Gorilla bats came alive in the evening against the Bulldogs. The offensive production. started with a two-run double off the left center field wall by Kylee Bohle to give the Gorillas a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the third with an RBI single.Â
Paxtyn Hayes added another home run to her season total in the bottom of the third with a shot off the scoreboard in left field to extend the Gorillas lead to 3-1. The Gorillas broke away in the bottom of the fourth with a lead off home run from Kianna Pellegrino. A few batters later, Kadyn Trochim score on a wild pitch. Two pitches later, Gabby Schultz hit a single up the middle to score two and extend the Gorillas lead to six, 7-1.
The Gorillas surrendered a run in the top of the fifth thanks to a hit batter with the bases loaded. Harrison entered the game in relief with the bases loaded and PSU up by five. She forced a ground ball double play to keep the lead at 7-2. In the bottom half, Keelah Griffith got the scoring started with an RBI single to drive in Kyndall Davis. Lambert followed with an infield single to drive in Kori Stonestreet on a throwing error. With the bases loaded, redshirt junior Gabby Schultz smacked a line drive single to left field to end the game by run-rule, 10-2.Â
Lilli Weir went 4.1 innings to get the win and Harrison logged her second save of the season. Lambert went 2-3 for the Gorillas, while Schultz went 3-3 with three RBI.
The Gorillas (12-6) return to action Sunday afternoon at the PSU Softball Comples as the Gorillas host the  Rockhurst Lady Hawks in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
