Gorillas Pull Away For 14-3 Win Over Miners

ROLLA, Mo. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball scored nine runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull away for a 14-3 victory over Missouri University of Science & Technology Tuesday (Apr. 18) at the Ballpark at S&T.

Austin Warkins went 2-for-3 including a three-run home run in the Gorillas (29-13) nine-run sixth inning. He also had an RBI single in the third inning. Daegan Brady collected three hits, including a run-scoring double in the second inning. He extended his current hitting streak to 11 games.

Nixon Brannan matched the Pitt State all-time record by hitting in his 21st consecutive game. He went 1-for-5 in the contest, but his third inning single helped him pull even with Justin Annin, who hit safely in 21 straight games during the 2000 season. Karson Coffee, Cade Clemons and Jake Grauberger all had doubles in the contest. Coffee and Clemons had two hits apiece.

Jordan Duncan (1-1) was credited with the victory. He allowed just two runs and three hits in 4.0 innings of work, registering five strikeouts. Cason Long allowed one run in 2.0 innings pitched, while Harold Baez pitched a clean inning with two strikeouts.

Pitt State will return home to open a three-game MIAA series against Newman University Friday (Apr. 21).
