Gorillas Even Series With 13-1 Run-Rule Victory

PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team plated runs in every inning, including a six-run second frame, as the Gorillas posted a 13-1 run-rule victory over Newman University Saturday (Apr. 22) at Al Ortolani Field.

The victory allowed Pitt State (30-14, 20-9 MIAA) to record the program's 12th all-time 30-win season, including the third straight 30-win campaign under head coach Bob Fornelli. The Gorillas and Jets (20-26, 12-17 MIAA) will wrap up their three-game MIAA series with a Noon (CDT) game Sunday.

Cade Clemons led Pitt State's 15-hit attack by going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, a triple and two RBI. Karson Coffee also collected a double and a triple in the contest. Austin Warkins smacked a home run and drove in a pair of runs, while Ryan Koval and Brevon Lee had 2-RBI games as well. Nixon Brannan saw his school record 22-game hitting streak come to an end in the contest as he went 0-for-4 at the plate.

Ben Des Rosiers (7-0) remained undefeated on the season. Des Rosiers allowed just three hits and one run in 5.0 innings of work. He issued four walks and fanned four batters. Boston Dowd and Paul Panduro each pitched scoreless innings of relief for the Gorillas.
