Edmond, Okla. – The Pittsburg State University softball team lost two games to the Bronchos of the University of Central Oklahoma in a Saturday (Apr. 29) double header at Gerry Pinkston Stadium in Edmond, Oklahoma.
The Bronchos cruised to a game one victory by a 7-2 score. In game two, the Gorillas battled but fell by a 4-3 outcome
Game One
The Bronchos relied on five runs in the fourth and fifth inning to take game one. The Bronchos got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning with a rbi groundout from Jace Minter to make the score 1-0. The Gorillas would tie up the game in the top of the third with an rbi single from Gabby Schultz. In the bottom of the third, the Bronchos would re-gain the lead with an rbi ground out from Minter to make it 2-1. In the bottom of the fourth, the Bronchos would extend their lead with two rbi singles from Rylee Lemos and Amelya Huggins to make it 4-1. In the next inning, Mikayla Rutland would hit a two-run home run to make it 6-1. Two batters later, Emily Deramus would hit an rbi double to make it 7-1. In the top of the seventh, the Gorillas would score one run off of an rbi double from Paxtyn Hayes to make it 7-2 but it was not enough as the Bronchos take game one 7-2.
Game Two
The Gorillas would take an early lead but the Bronchos would battle back to take game two 4-3. The Gorillas would score first as Heather Arnett would score on a throwing error to make it 1-0. In the next inning, Keelah Griffith would hit a two-run home run to make it 3-0. The Bronchos would score two runs in the bottom of the fourth with a sac fly from Shayla Harper and an rbi double from Tatum Long. With runners on first and second with no outs in the bottom of the fifth, the Gorillas would turn a triple play to escape with a 3-2 lead. But in the bottom of the sixth, the Bronchos would re-gain the lead with two rbi singles from Harper and Terin Ritz to make it 4-3. The Bronchos would hold on to win 4-3
The Gorillas (26-20, 11-13 MIAA) will be on the road Sunday (Apr.30) as they will head to Wichita to take on the Jets of Newman University in a double header starting at 1 p.m. (CDT) at the NU Softball Complex.
