GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Pittsburg State University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches against nationally ranked foes in the season opening Oredigger Classic Friday (Sept. 1). The Gorillas fell, 3-0, to No. 21 Colorado Mesa and Pitt State droppedĀ 3-1 decision to No. 2 Colorado Mines.
The Gorillas will return to action with a 9 a.m. (CDT) match against Augustana (S.D.) and Pitt State will close out the two-day tournament with a 3 p.m. match against Colorado Christian.
CMU downed the Gorillas 25-20, 25-21, 25-14 in the day's first match. Janae Thurston paced Pitt State with eight kills and eight digs in the match, while Carly Clennan added seven kills. Jadyn Jackson chipped in with 31 assists.
Mines held off the Gorillas 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 25-14 in match two Friday. Thurston posted 11 kills in the match, while Kate Bandre added seven kills. Jackson finished with 31 assists and Josie McCroskeyĀ contributed 13 digs.
