PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team outscored Fort Hays State University 17-5 over the game's final 6:20 to pull away for a 74-62 victory Saturday (Jan. 13) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Deshaun English II filled his stat line with game highs of 24 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots to help pace the Gorillas (9-5, 5-3 MIAA) to the win over the Tigers (12-4, 7-3 MIAA).
Tanner Mans hit a go-ahead 3-pointer give Pitt State a 60-57 edge with 6:04 to go and the Gorillas never surrendered its lead.
Jeramy Shaw added 16 points for Pitt State, while Mans finished with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range. Jordan Frison dished out seven assists, while Max Alexander chipped in with five points, five rebounds and five assists.
FHSU got 14 points from Kaleb Hammeke and 13 apiece from Jaheim Holden and Kyle Grill.
Pitt State will travel to Emporia, Kan., Wednesday (Jan. 17) to battle Emporia State University at W.L. White Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. (CST).
