PITTSBURG — The Fort Hays State University women's basketball team used a 16-1 second half run to pull away for a 68-53 victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Jan. 13) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
The Tigers (13-3, 7-3 MIAA) led 43-39 with 3:32 to play in the third quarter before running away from the Gorillas (12-3, 6-3 MIAA) down the stretch. Pitt State shot just 33 percent from the field in the contest (20-61).
Macie Mays paced the Gorillas with 11 points, while Grace Pyle and Savannah Campbell added 10 apiece.
Olivia Hollenbeck posted game highs of 18 points and nine rebounds for FHSU, while Emma Ruddle (12), Katie Wagner (10) and Ellie Stearns (10) also finished in double figures.
Pitt State will travel to Emporia, Kan., Wednesday (Jan. 17) to battle Emporia State University at W.L. White Auditorium at 5:30 p.m. (CST).
