CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team claimed a decisive 93-78 win on the road to end the weekend against Rogers State on Saturday (Dec. 7) inside the Claremore Expo Center.
As a team, the Gorillas (6-3, 2-0 MIAA) shot .534 from the field and converted on 21-of-25 free throws (.840). Jordan Frison and R.J. Forney Jr. tied for the team lead with 19 points. Forney Jr. went 5-of-8 from three-point attempts and grabbed eight rebounds, while Frison went 7-of-11 from the field, 5-of-6 from free throws and dished out four assists.
Avery Taggart finished with 18 points, going 4-of-9 from deep while hauling in eight rebounds. Tane Prictor came close to a double-double, finishing with 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds off the bench.
Rogers State (8-3, 1-1 MIAA) was led by Kofi Hamilton with 14 points before fouling out. Benard Omooria (12), Andrew Mason (11) and Anthony Marshall Jr. (10) also scored in double figures for the Hillcats.
Tied at the half 46-46, the Gorillas jumped out to an early seven point lead (55-48) following a Taggart three-pointer with 17:25 remaining and never looked back. The Hillcats were able to cut the deficit down to four on the following possession, but that would be as close as they got for the rest of the second half.
Up next for Pittsburg State will be the University of Missouri at St. Louis Tritons in San Antonio, Texas, on Tuesday (Dec. 17) at the Northeast ISD Sports Gym, with tipoff slated for 3:00 p.m. (CST).
