SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team fell in their opening game of the River City Holiday Classic 62-58 against the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Tuesday (Dec. 17) from the Northeast ISD Sports Gym.
As a team, the Gorillas (6-4) clawed back from being down 18 in the first half and took a late lead (54-53) with 1:50 remaining in the game thanks to an
R.J. Forney Jr. three-pointer. The Tritons (4-6) regained the lead on the following possession and built up a four point lead in the final minute of the game en route to the 62-58 final.
For Pitt State,
Jordan Frison led the team with 17 points, seven assists and three steals while knocking down all eight free throw attempts.
Avery Taggart finished with 10 points; Forney Jr. (9),
Tanner Mans (8) and
Tane Prictor (8) were the other leading scorers.
UMSL was led by KC Udolisa with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Matt Enright finished with a game-high 21 points.
Pittsburg State will be back in action tomorrow (Dec. 18) on the final day of the River City Holiday Classic against Colorado Mesa, with tipoff slated for 3:00 p.m. (CST).
