Coffee, Gorillas Pound Bearcats Twice Sunday

PITTSBURG — Junior outfielder Karson Coffee belted three home runs and piled up 12 RBI to help fuel the Pittsburg State University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Southwest Baptist University Sunday (Feb. 18).

Coffee went 5-for-5 at the plate in a 25-3 game one run-rule victory over the Bearcats. He smacked a pair of home runs in the Gorillas' 15-run fifth inning, including a grandslam, and drove in eight runs in the contest. Coffee added a three-run homer in game two as Pitt State blanked SBU, 15-0, in that contest.

Game one starter Alex Kafka (1-0) worked 4.0 innings, allowing four hits and three runs. He issued one walk and fanned one batter. Relievers Gage Singer and Tyler Gorman limited the Bearcats to one hit over the final three innings of play. Singer struck out three of the six batters he faced.

A.J. Craft smacked a pinch-hit three-run home run in the contest. Austin Warkins doubled, tripled and drove in three runs, while Jake Grauberger and Brevon Lee scored three runs apiece.

In game two, starter Brady Pacha (1-2) tossed 5.0 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and registering five strikeouts. Cadyn Castellanos and Landon Reith each tossed scoreless innings behind Pacha.

Cade Clemons smacked a pair of home runs -- a solo homer in the fourth and a two-run shot in the sixth. Connor Allen doubled twice and drove in four runs, while Hayden Dyer went 3-for-3 atthe plate with three runs scored.

Pitt State improved to 9-3 on the season after sweeping the three-game series against SBU (0-7).
