TOPEKA, Kan. - The Pittsburg State softball program finished up the Washburn Invitational with wins over Rockhurst and Minnesota State - Mankato today (Feb. 25) at the Lake Shawnee Softball Complex.
In game one, Chelsea Beville pitched the fourth-ever no-hitter in program history, striking out 11 in the process against Rockhurst (3-4). Pittsburg State (14-2) achieved the 8-0 run rule victory in five innings, as home runs by Maddie Fernandez (San Antonio, Texas) and Paxtyn Hayes (Greenwood, Ark.) were the highlight offensively.
The Gorillas beat Minnesota State - Mankato (9-3) 3-0, behind a dominant showing from Ava Laurent (Grand Island, Neb.). Laurent struck out nine in the shutout victory to pick up her fifth win of the season. Gabby Schultz (Gardner, Kan.) led the team with two RBI and Hayes picked up the other RBI in the game.
Up next for Pitt State will be a midweek home opening doubleheader against Delta State on Wednesday (Feb. 28) beginning at 1:00 p.m. (CST) from the Pittsburg State Softball Complex.
