TOPEKA — The Pittsburg State University women's indoor track & field team enjoyed a record setting day in breezing to the 2024 MIAA Indoor Championship Sunday (Feb. 25) at the Washburn University Indoor Athletic Facility.
Pitt State finished the three-day meet with an MIAA record 221 points, besting second-place Northwest Missouri State University by 113 points. The Bearcats finished the meet with 108 points. Fort Hays State University posted 62 points to finish in third place.
Pitt State easily posted the highest scoring total in MIAA Indoor Championships history, topping the previous high point total of 190.5 points set by Lincoln University in 2013.

The Gorillas secured five individual MIAA crowns on the day, including three MIAA meet record performances. Diandrenique Gaines set MIAA meet records in winning both the 60 meters (7.35) and the 200 meters (23.55), while Kyla Davis shattered the MIAA meet record in the pole vault (14-9). All three marks established new Pitt State all-time records as well.
Auna Childress an MIAA title in the triple jump (42-6) and Kate Dawson claimed the conference crown in the mile run (5:00.29).
Isabelle Peters (13-5) and Shelbi Day (13-1) both logged season best marks in placing second and third in the pole vault. Hannah Gibson finished as the MIAA runner-up in the 3,000 meters (10:02.78); Taylor Nelloms placed second in the triple jump (41-11.5, PR); Mikah Edwards finished second in the 600-yard run (1:23.22, PR); and the 4x400m relay of Edwards, Olivia Lowrey, Kinleigh Hall and Yasmine Johnson secured an MIAA runner-up showing (3:42.60) while breaking the Pitt State all-time record in the process.
Taniya Looney earned All-MIAA honors with a third-place finish in the 60m (7.44), while Marissa Dick placed third in the 3,000m (10:04.01) and Blakelee Winn finished third in the 60m hurdles (8.53).
Other post-scoring performances included: Â Dawson, 800m (fourth, 2:12.29); Madelyn Marquez, 60m hurdles (fourth, 8.67); Winn, 60m (fifth, 7.51); Jamiya Morgan, 200m (fifth, 24.19, PR; Claire Bruening, mile (5th, 5:07.48; 7th, 800m, 2:14.67); Looney, 200m (6th, 24.45); Johnson, 400m (6th, 55.84); Payton Phillips, 60m hurdles (7th, 8.81); Makayla Pavelka, triple jump (7th, 39-2.5); Lowrey, 400m (8th, 56.96); Siby Yao, triple jump (8th, 38-5).
The Gorillas won their third straight title and seventh MIAA indoor crown in the last eight years. Pitt State had won four indoor titles in a row between 2017 and 2020 before UCM claimed the 2021 crown.
