Pitt State Squads to Host Ninth Annual Gorilla Indoor Classic

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's and women's indoor track & field teams will return to the Robert W. Plaster Center to host the two-day Ninth Annual Gorilla Indoor Classic Friday & Saturday (Feb. 9-10).

Friday's action starts with field events at 2 p.m. (CST), while action on the track gets underway at 3 p.m. On Saturday, morning session track events begin at 11 a.m. with field events starting at Noon.

Approximately 1,250 athletes are expected to compete in the meet. The field of teams will include MIAA foes Central Missouri, Emporia State, Fort Hays State, Missouri Southern, Missouri Western, Nebraska-Kearney, Northwest Missouri and Rogers State.

Admission to each meet is $5 per day. Children 12 & under are free as are PSU students with I.D.

The Pitt State men held steady at No. 1 once again in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Track & Field Ratings Index (TFRI). The Gorillas, the defending NCAA Division II Indoor National Champions, have a pair of national leaders:  sprinter Dakari Charlton in the 200 meters (21.04) and multi event athlete Hunter Jones in the heptathlon (5636 pts). Pitt State also has 12 national top 10 marks, including nine top five performances.
 
The Pitt State women remained No. 3 in this week's rating index. The Gorillas have 12 national top 10 marks, including three national top five marks posted to date.
