PITTSBURG -- Max Alexander made two free throws with 15.5 seconds remaining in double overtime to help seal the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team's 86-83 victory over Missouri Western State University before 2,039 Senior Day fans at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
The Gorillas wrapped up the regular season with a 19-9 overall record and a 15-7 mark in MIAA play. Pitt State finished alone in third place in the MIAA standings. The Gorillas will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming 2024 MIAA Basketball Championships presented by Southern Bank next week. MWSU closed out the regular season 16-12 (10-12 MIAA).
Jeramy Shaw paced the Gorillas with 25 points and nine rebounds in the topsy turvy contest. Alexander finished with 19 points while Tanner Mans chipped in with 10.Jordan Frison registered a double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Deshaun English II posted nine points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots in his final home game for Pitt State.
Western got game highs of 32 points and 16 rebounds from Taye Fields.
