TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team hung an eight spot in the top of the first inning while rolling to a 17-4 series opening victory over Northeastern State University Thursday (Mar. 28) at Rousey Field.
The No. 24 ranked Gorillas (22-9, 13-15 MIAA) scored eight runs on six hits in the opening frame to set the tone early. Blake Mozley tripled to open the game and later belted a three-run double in his second at-bat of the inning as Pitt State sent 12 batters to the plate in the frame.
Starter Tanner Leslie took advantage of the early lead. Leslie (6-1) limited the RiverHawks (15-17, 6-12 MIAA) to a pair of unearned runs on two hits over 5.0 innings of work. He issued one walk and registered five strikeouts.
Daegan Brady went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and four RBI. Mozley and Austin Warkins each drove in three runs, while Mozley, Warkins, Dylan Kurahashi-Choy Foo and Josh Holmes all had two hits in the contest.
Pitt State and NSU will resume the series with a 5 p.m. (CDT) game Friday (Mar. 29).
