Gorillas Set to Host Drury in Midweek Action

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will play host to Drury University in a non-conference game Tuesday (Apr. 2). First pitch is set for 5 p.m. (CDT) at Al Ortolani Field.

Pitt State is 22-11 overall (13-7 MIAA) after dropping two of three games in an MIAA weekend series against Northeastern State University at Tahlequah, Okla. Drury is 14-12 on the season after taking three of four games from Quincy University in Springfield, Mo., Mar. 22-23. The Panthers have won six of their last seven games.

As a team, Pitt State is hitting .309 and scoring 8.8 runs per game. The Gorillas have smacked 84 doubles and 57 home runs and stolen 41 bases to date. Pitt State pitchers have a 4.87 ERA registering 242 strikeouts in 273.1 innings pitched. Defensively, the Gorillas have a .977 fielding percentage with just 26 errors in 1,121 total chances. Pitt State ranks second in the MIAA in fielding percentage and third in the conference in ERA and batting average. The Gorillas are fourth in the league in runs scored.
 
Graduate infielder Dylan Kurahashi-Choy Foo has a team-leading .387 batting average with 43 hits in 111 at-bats on the season. Choy Foo, who ranks fifth in the MIAA in batting average, has 15 doubles, five home runs home runs and 32 RBI to his credit.

Senior catcher Nixon Brannan is hitting .386 with 10 doubles, 12 home runs and 34 RBI on the season, while senior infielder Daegan Brady is batting .352 with 25 runs scored, six home runs and 17 RBI. Junior infielder Austin Warkins is batting .310 with 27 runs scored, 10 doubles, seven home runs and 32 RBI. Brannan is third in the MIAA in home runs and seventh in the conference in batting average.

Junior right-hander Gage Singer (0-1, 0.00), junior RHP Brett Wiemers (1-0, 3.00) and senior RHP Christian Spitz (0-0, 9.30 ERA) have each made midweek starts this season.

Junior RHP Cole Askew (0-0, 5.02 ERA, 4 Saves) has made a team-leading 14 relief appearances for the Gorillas, while junior RHP Cadyn Castellanos (5-2, 5.06 ERA) has appeared in 12 games. Junior RHP Boston Dowd (3-1, 1.86) also had made 11 relief appearances with 20 strikeouts and a 0.83 WHIP in 19.1 innings of work (11 hits, five walks).
