Mozley, Gorillas Rally in Eighth for 11-5 Win

PITTSBURG -- Blake Mozley smacked a two-run go-ahead home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to help spark the Pittsburg State University baseball team to an 11-5 victory over Missouri Western State University Saturday (Apr. 13) at Al Ortolani Field.

The Gorillas (26-14, 16-10 MIAA) led 5-0 through six innings of play but the visiting Griffons (18-21, 9-17 MIAA) scored two runs in the seventh and three more in the top of the eighth to pull even at 5-5.

Josh Holmes drew a five-pitch walk to open the bottom of the eighth against MWSU reliever John Ross (1-1). Mozley followed with a blast to left field two pitches later to put the Gorillas in front. Hayden Dyer and Jeff Grauberger added RBI hits in the frame and pinch hitter Joe Hamilton had a run-scoring grounder in the frame.

Landon Reith (3-0) got the final five outs to earn the win on the mound for Pitt State. Starter Gage Singer limited the Griffons to two hits over 5.0 innings of work. He issued one walk and recorded three strikeouts.

Mozley went 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI, while Dyer doubled, homered and drove in a pair of runs. Nixon Brannan also went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
