PITTSBURG -- Nixon Brannan doubled home Connor Allen with the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning, lifting the Pittsburg State University baseball team to a 4-3 win over Drury University Tuesday (Apr. 2) at Al Ortolani Field.
Brannan's line shot down the rightfield line ended a 3 hour, 26 minute marathon that saw the Gorillas (23-11) and Panthers (14-13) combine to use 19 pitchers in the midweek match-up.
Drury jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but Pitt State chipped away with single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh frames for a 3-2 advantage. The Panthers tied the game in the eighth to ultimately force extra innings.
Dylan Kurahashi-Choy Foo had three of Pitt State's 11 hits in the game and he drove in a pair of runs. Austin Warkins belted a solo home run in the contest. Christian Spitz (1-0) the last of 10 pitchers used in the contest, earned the by pitching a scoreless 11th inning.
