WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The University of Central Missouri baseball team broke open a 1-1 game with three runs in the third inning en route to a 9-1 series opening victory over Pittsburg State University Friday (Apr. 5) at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field.
Jacob Steele doubled twice and drove in four runs to pace the No. 2 ranked Mules (31-4, 19-2 MIAA) to their ninth straight win. Austin Warkins singled home Dylan Kurahashi-Choy Foo with the Gorillas (23-12, 13-8 MIAA) lone run of the game in the top of the first inning. Warkins had two of Pitt State's six hits in the contest.
Conner Wolf improved to 7-0 on the season by limiting the Gorillas to four hits over 6.0 innings of work. Pitt State starter Tanner Leslie (6-2) allowed four runs on eight hits over 3.0 innings. Boston Dowd, Paul Panduro and Grayson Walden all pitched behind Leslie.
The Gorillas and Mules will continue the three-game MIAA series with a 2 p.m. (CDT) game Saturday (Apr. 6).
