PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team opened MIAA action with a 2-2 draw against Nebraska-Kearney Friday (Sept. 27).
Scoreless after the first half of play, the Lopers (4-0-3, 0-0-1 MIAA) got on the board in the 64th minute from a Daniella LaQuinta strike inside the 18-yard box. It would remain a 1-0 advantage for the guests before a furious final 10 minutes ensued.
The Gorillas (4-2-1, 0-0-1 MIAA) got their first goal of the afternoon from a McKenna Robinson corner kick that Dylann Ehegartner and Jadyn Newell combined for in the six-yard box in the 81stminute. Robinson wasn't done picking up assists with her seventh of the season coming in the 84th minute for River Riley's third goal of the season, making it a 2-1 lead for Pitt State.
UNK responded in the 86th minute off a Hanna Schimmer goal to ensure both teams claimed a point in the conference standings following the 2-2 final.
Statistical leaders were Robinson and Hanna Carlisle with three shots each with the duo being joined by the two goal scorers 1 Newell and Riley - to account for all four shots on goal for the Gorillas. Jocelyn Kramar played the full 90 minutes in goal and finished with three saves.
Up next, Pittsburg State will host Fort Hays State Sunday (Sept. 29) at 1 p.m. (CDT) at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch.
