Avery Taggart scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team to an 86-73 victory over Rogers State University Wednesday (Jan. 15).

The Gorillas, who defeated the Hillcats 93-78 at Claremore, Okla., on Dec. 7, completed the season sweep of the series against RSU, improving to 9-7 overall (5-2 MIAA). The Hillcats dropped to 13-6 overall and 4-3 in MIAA play.

Pitt State built a 21-point lead, 34-13, with 5:12 remaining in the first half. RSU chipped away but could get no closer than eight points of the Gorillas, 77-69, with 1:48 to play in the game.

Taggart scored 19 of his points in the first half. He hit five 3-pointers in the contest.

Jordan Frison scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half for the Gorillas and he dished out six assists.

In his first collegiate start,
Evan Jackson posted 15 points and 11 rebounds, registering his second double-double of the season.
R.J. Forney Jr. also scored in double figures with 14 points.

Pitt State shot 50.0 percent from the field in the game, making 27 of 57 attempts. The Gorillas outscored the Hillcats, 24-12, at the free throw line. Pitt State knocked down 24 of 30 charity shots.

Anthony Marshall Jr. matched Taggart with 26 points to pace RSU Caden Fry (18) and Andrew Mason (12) also scored in double figures.

Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Jan. 18) with a 1:40 p.m. match-up against the University of Central Oklahoma. The game will be televised in the Kansas City metro area on 38 The Spot as the MIAA TV Game of the Week. The Pitt State – UCO women's game will follow the men's match-up at 3:40 p.m.
