KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Pittsburg State University junior placekicker Austin Schmitt was named the MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week Monday (Oct. 13).

Schmitt scored a game high 16 points in No. 15 Pitt State's 34-10 Homecoming win over Washburn Saturday (Oct. 11) at Carnie Smith Stadium. The junior from Grain Valley, Mo., booted field goals of 42 and 33 yards in the contest as well as all four of his PAT tries. He also scored his first career touchdown when he rushed the ball eight yards to the end zone on a successful fake field goal attempt with 5:00 to play in the game.

Schmitt has made an MIAA leading nine field goals on the season and he's successfully converted 32 of 40 field goal attempts during his three-year career.
