PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team dropped an 87-62 decision to visiting Texas Woman's University Tuesday (Nov. 25) in an NCAA Division II Top 10 battle at John Lance Arena.
TWU (5-1), the No. 8 team in the most recent WBCA/Division II Top 25 poll, shot 53.0 percent from the field as a team in the game, converting 35 of 66 shots from the floor. Jada Celsur (22) and Gabby Elliott (20) each posted 20-point scoring nights. Averee Kleinhans also finished with 19 points.
Marin Adams led three Pitt State players in double figure scoring with 14 points.
Kaycee McCumber added 11 points and a game-high 18 rebounds, the third-highest single game rebounding total in school history.
Harper Schreiner also chipped in with 14 points.
The No. 2 ranked Gorillas (3-1) shot 35.7 percent from the field in the contest (20-56); and Pitt State was victimized by 17 turnovers. The Gorillas generated 19 points at the free throw line, holding a seven-point edge on the Pioneers at the charity stripe.
Pitt State will return to action Sunday (Nov. 30) when the Gorillas host Angelo State University. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m. (CST).
