PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team posted a lopsided 86-43 win over the University of Saint Mary Monday (Dec. 15) in front of a raucous crowd of 1,707 Kids Day fans at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
Junior guard
Ja'Miya Brown led four Gorillas in double figures with 16 points as No. 6 ranked Pitt State improved to 7-2 on the season. Brown made six of nine shots from the field as the Gorillas shot 49.3 percent from the field on the afternoon (36-73).
Junior center
Amanda Byrnes added 15 points and six rebounds, while senior guard
Harper Schreiner posted a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Freshman guard
Marin Adams added 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
A'Myah Bankston (12) and Keely Barnard (10) scored in double figures for Saint Mary. The Spires shot 23.8 percent (15-63) from the field in the game.
The Gorillas outrebounded the Spires, 65-22, including a 19-3 advantage on the offensive glass.
Pitt State will travel to Lawton, Okla., to take part in the Fairfield Inn & Suites Holiday Classic Friday and Saturday (Dec. 19-20). The Gorillas will face Cameron University and Western Colorado University in the two-day tournament.
