Gerber Rewrites History Books In 81-74 Win Over UNK

KEARNEY, Neb. - The fifth ranked Pittsburg State University women's basketball team erupted for 31 points in the fourth quarter en route to an 81-74 road win over Nebraska - Kearney inside the Health & Sports Center on Saturday (Feb. 20). Senior center Karenna Gerber eclipsed Lizzy Jeronimus (12-15) for career rebounds at PSU and tied the school record for the best field goal percentage in a game.

Gerber finished the game with 24 points, going 11-of-11 from the field and hauled in nine rebounds. For her career she now has 843 rebounds to her name and 1,592 points, moving her up to seventh in program ranks passing Kelly Krumsick (80-83).

Grace Pyle led all scorers in the game with 25 points with five made three-pointers, adding in six rebounds and four assists. Harper Schreiner stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, seven assists, four steals and four rebounds. Sydney Holmes rounded out the double figure scorers for the Gorillas (24-2, 16-0 MIAA) with 12.

Nebraska - Kearney (19-6, 12-4 MIAA) was led by Jillian Aschoff with 16 points and five assists.

Trailing at the half (37-34) and heading into the fourth quarter (53-50), the Gorillas went 11-of-12 from the field, 3-of-4 from three and converted on six free throws in the final 10 minutes for the third 30-point quarter of the season. 

As a team, Pitt State won the rebound battle, 37-28 and points in the paint (42-34) stats while providing 17 assists for 32 made baskets.

Up next the Gorillas will face off against No. 7 Fort Hays State (23-2, 14-2 MIAA) at 2:00 p.m. (CST) on Saturday (Feb. 22) from Gross Memorial Coliseum.
