TOPEKA, Kan. - Pittsburg State University pitchers
Aydenne Brown and
Ava Laurent each threw a no-hitter at the Washburn Invitational to lead the Gorillas over Minnesota State - Mankato and Maryville University on Sunday (Feb. 23) at Gahnstrom Field. Marking the first time in program history the Gorillas pitched a no-hitter in back-to-back games and a pitcher (Brown), threw a no-hitter in back-to-back appearances.
In game one against MNSM (2-3), Laurent (4-2) pitched seven innings with 11 strikeouts (three looking) to notch her second career no-hitter as a Gorilla. On offense Pittsburg State (8-3) was led by
Heather Arnett, going 3-for-3 and attributing for the lone run scored in the game from a
Kadyn Trochim RBI double to right center in the third inning.
Game two would see more offense for PSU with a 9-0 run-rule victory over Maryville (6-4). Brown (4-1) picked up 11 strikeouts in five innings from 68 pitches, her second no-hitter in as many games for the Gorillas this season.
Lexi Davis,
Amaya Snyder,
Courtney Storey and Trochim each provided two RBI in the game, while
Kendall Forbes went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.Â
Up next for the Gorillas will be the Concordia - St. Paul Golden Bears on Monday (Feb. 24) to conclude the Washburn Invitational at 9:30 a.m. (CST) at Gahnstrom Field.
