No. 20 Pitt State Score 11-5 Road Win Over Rockhurst

Box Score KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Rickey Sanchez collected four hits, including a double and a home run, to help spark the Pittsburg State University baseball team to an 11-5 road win over Rockhurst University Wednesday (Feb. 26).

Sanchez scored three times and drove in three runs to help spark the Gorillas (10-1) on the day the squad debuted at No. 20 in the National College Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) NCAA Division II Top 25 poll.

Dagen Brewer also homered and drove in four runs for the Gorillas in the win against the Hawks (3-2). He had a pair of RBI grounders and added a two-run blast for a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning.

Pitt State rushed out to a 6-0 lead on the strength of a five-run second inning. The Hawks got as close at 7-4 after scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Gorillas countered with two runs in the top of the seventh to take control.

Starter Ty Blecha and six relievers combined to limit Rockhurst to five runs on 11 hits in the contest. Blecha (1-0) gave up one run in 2.0 inning of work.
