PITTSBURG --
Kolby Dougan tied a school record with 16 strikeouts in a complete-game one-hitter to help spark the Pittsburg State University baseball team to a 12-0 win over Truman State University in game two of a doubleheader Saturday (Feb. 8) as the Gorillas swept a pair of games from the visiting Bulldogs.
Dougan (2-0) came painfully close to recording a no hitter. Truman's Dakota Joggerst's excuse me swing double down the left field line on a 1-2 pitch broke up Dougan's no-hit bit with two outs in the seventh inning. Dougan shook off the hit and quickly fanned Quinten Bauman to end the game and register his 16th strikeout among his 21 outs. His strikeout total matched
Paul Panduro's school record mark achieved in a 9-0 no-hit win over Newman University on April 22, 2022.
Dagen Brewer doubled twice and drove in a pair of runs, while
Jake Skaggs went 2-for-3 at the plate and posted three RBI in the contest. Adam Rodgers tripled and scored three runs.
The Gorillas (6-0) claimed a 10-3 victory over the Bulldogs (0-3) in Saturday's first game.
Drew Bugner had a team-leading three RBI, while Skaggs and
Rickey Sanchez both had a pair of hits.
Tanner Leslie (1-0) allowed two earned runs in 5.0 innings of work.
Elijah Seitz recorded four strikeouts while registering the final six outs of the game for the Gorillas.
Pitt State and Truman will wrap up the four-game series with a Noon (CST) game Sunday (Feb. 9) at Al Ortolani Field.
