Gorillas Complete Four-Game Series Sweep of Bulldogs

PITTSBURG -- Lead-off man Alex Rodgers smacked four hits and scored three runs to help fuel the Pittsburg State University baseball team to a 10-1 victory over Truman State University Sunday (Feb. 9).

Rodgers hit a double and a triple while driving in a pair of runs as the Gorillas piled on 13 hits to complete the four-game series sweep of the Bulldogs (0-4). Pitt State kept its unblemished season intact in improving to 7-0 on the young season.

Starter Brady Pacha (2-0) retired all 15 batters he faced on 52 pitches. He registered three strikeouts on the afternoon. Three relievers -- Braxton Haywood, Cole Askew and Boston Dowd -- combined to limit Truman to one run on one hit in 4.0 innings pitched behind Pacha. Dowd recorded four strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work.

Rickey Sanchez and Josh Holmes also had two hits each. Sanchez doubled and drove in two runs while Holmes tripled and scored three times. Hayden Dyer also went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Gorillas outscored the Bulldogs, 38-5, in the four-game series.
