PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University softball team flexed its offensive muscle Saturday (Mar. 22) as the Gorillas swept an MIAA doubleheader from Washburn University by twin 12-2 margins at the PSU Softball Complex.
The Gorillas (23-9, 4-2 MIAA) used a seven-run second inning to take control early in game one. Pitt State added three runs in the second inning and book ended single runs in the first and fourth frames.
Courtney Storey went 2-for-2 with a triple, sacrifice fly and four RBI to lead Pitt State's 15-hit attack.
Heather Arnett also went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while
Kendall Forbes doubled and drove in a pair of runs.
Ava Laurent (10-4) limited the Ichabods (21-12, 3-3 MIAA) to one run on one hit in 3.0 innings of work. She issued four walks and registered four strikeouts.
In game two, the Gorillas overcame a 2-0 deficit with four runs in the fourth inning before tacking on three runs in the fifth inning and five more in the sixth to walk off 10-run win.
Sophia Driver belted a grand slam off WU reliever Sadie Walker to end the game.
Emily Ades smacked a three-run homer in the contest and added a bases clearing double, finishing the game 2-for-3 with six RBI.
Amaya Snyder also belted a solo home run in the contest.
Aydenne Brown (10-4) overcame six hits and four walks by dialing up six strikeouts to pick up her 10th win of the season.
The Gorillas will return to action Sunday (Mar. 23) by hosting MIAA rival Emporia State University in a twinbill starting at Noon.
