Gorillas Complete Perfect Weekend With Sweep of Hornets

PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University softball team competed a perfect 4-0 weekend by sweeping an MIAA doubleheader from Emporia State University Sunday (Mar. 23) at the PSU Softball Complex. The Gorillas defeated the Hornets, 7-3 and 11-1.

In game one, No. 25 ranked Pitt State (25-9, 6-2 MIAA) broke open a 3-3 game with a four-run fifth inning. Heather Arnett delivered the go-ahead hit, while Aleyna Rushing followed with an RBI triple. Courtney Storey squeezed home Rushing and Kyleigh Lamont later doubled home Amaya Snyder in the productive inning.

Chelsea Beville (1-1) posted 3.1 no-hit innings of relief work to pick up her first win of the season. She issued one walk and registered one strikeout.

In game two, Aydenne Brown (11-4) and two relievers combined on a two-hitter in a five inning run-rule victory over ESU (22-12, 3-5 MIAA). The Gorillas scored two runs in the first and tacked on six runs in the second, two in the third and a final run in the fourth frame.

Kadyn Trochim doubled, homered and drove in six runs in a 3-for-3 game at the plate. Ava Sarwiski ad Kendall Forbes also had doubles in the game.

Pitt State will return to action next Friday with a key MIAA doubleheader next Friday (Mar. 28) at Claremore, Okla., against Rogers State University.
