No. 25 Gorillas Claim Road Sweep Over No. 8 Hillcats

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Pittsburg State University softball team picked up a key MIAA road sweep over No. 8 Rogers State University on Friday (Mar. 28) at the RCB Sports Complex.

PSU claimed game one by a 4-0 score line and 6-3 in the doubleheader finale to claim the sweep. Pitt State following tonight's results around the conference is tied with Central Oklahoma in the standings with both teams 8-2.

For the No. 25 Gorillas (27-9, 8-2 MIAA) Ava Laurent (11-4) threw a complete game one hitter, striking out 10 Hillcats (24-9, 8-6 MIAA). The lone hit of the game for the hosts came in the fourth inning on a spinning infield single.

Kendall Forbes singled home Amaya Snyder in the second inning to get the scoring started for PSU, as Ava Sarwinski hit her first home run of the season to begin a three-run seventh inning.

In game two a six-run fourth inning was the catalyst to the 6-3 final score. Rogers State got the scoring started with a Mariah Belzer solo home run in the second inning followed by a solo home run by Kaylee Lyon in the third.

Amaya Snyder began the fourth inning off for Pitt State with a solo home run to left center to jumpstart the scoring spree. Heather Arnett singled home Kyleigh Lamont, a Hillcat fielding error allowed Arnett, Emily Ades and Sophia Driver to score before a sacrifice fly from Courtney Storey scored Alleyna Rushing to wrap up the inning.

Callie Yellin made it interesting with a solo home run to begin the sixth inning but that was all the eighth ranked Hillcats could muster. Aydenne Brown (12-4) picked up the win with nine strikeouts in six innings, Chelsea Beville picked up the save with a shutout seventh inning.

Up next for the Gorillas will be the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats on Friday (Apr. 4) at the Pittsburg State Softball Field, beginning a twinbill at 2:00 p.m. (CDT).
